the saltworks and cervia’s white gold

cervia’s white goldThe thousand-year history of Cervia’s salt ponds is still reflected today in its mirrored waters where the activity has returned for producing salt. It’s an area naturally precious, and both culturally ,and historically important. Today it has also been launched as a key for tourism and protected as a valuable zone inside the natural park del Delta del Po.
The salt ponds can be discovered in many ways by following different itineraries, these include walking, by boat, by bicycle, under the stars or at sunset. It’s magic remains in tact and can be discovered either by its natural beauty, in its history, or by its productive aspect. The different routes begin from the visitor’s center situated at the beginning of old Via Bova. Since it’s considered a protective oasis, visits are only allowed with an authorized guide.
The area has also become populated by numerous species of birds as a stop over during the long migration, or as their place of residence. This has offered those passionate about bird watching an unforgettable opportunity to see examples of the Black Winged Stilt, the Egret, the Pied Avocet, and countless species of wading birds. During the cold months, thousands of ducks including the Mallard, fly away for the winter. But among the arrivals, in recent years we’ve seen the Pink Flamingo flourish.
