surf in milano marittima
The beach of Milano Marittima is a huge open-air gym, where in summer it’s possible to practice sports in both the water and on the sand such as kite surf and windsurf. The overwhelming choice of aquatic schools include those for windsurf, catamaran, sailing, water skiing, swimming, and canoeing. Near the small canal in Milano Marittima there’s the Surfing Beach Club, a surf school that organizes lessons everyday and is affiliated with the Italian Surfing Federation. Three times world surfing champion Andy Irons came during the summer of 2009 direct from Hawaii during his Billabong promotional tour of Italy. Irons started his professional career at age seventeen, and said that his most special moment was winning his first world title. He recalls of Milano Marittima, “It’s a welcoming place with many beautiful people, marvelous food, and the possibility
to enjoy yourself in exclusive bars and restaurants”. He tells us, “I would say to any youngsterwho wants to learn surfing, that it’s an incredible lifestyle, an exciting and enjoyable sport that enables you to stay young. To ride the ocean gives you an overdose of pure energy. It’s healthy, it’s an experience unique.”
