The ancient city of salt
Cervia, the ancient city of salt, today one of the most visited tourist destinations on the coast, has been able to combine its different souls giving tourists a kaleidoscopic mix of emotions, entertainment and distinguishing culture. A tour of the old city centre, for example, is an opportunity to discover the identity associated with salt production and seafaring on which Cervia has created its charm year after year. In this excellent itinerary the Salt Warehouse, now one of the best examples of industrial archaeology, the San Michele tower and the salt museum give us a glimpse of this important past.
The white light reflected by the salt is offset by the variegated colours of the "Garden City" of Cervia, one of the most important flower display exhibitions in Italy. Thousands of plants and flowers are used every year for the open air exhibition which decorates flowerbeds and gardens until September and they make a quiet evening stroll after dinner a charming experience. The evenings in Cervia are also made interesting with numerous events such as street markets, historic re-enactments, concerts and guided tours around the old city centre.
